Soccer is Coming Home: From Local Fields to the World Stage

Soccer in the United States is entering another defining moment. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup running from June 11 to July 19, 2026, the sport’s momentum is accelerating nationwide and the impact is being felt at the local level. Did I mention this all takes place during the United States 250th birthday? Cue the fireworks.

For the first time ever, the World Cup will be hosted by three nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will also expand to 48 national teams, bringing more matches, more fans, and more global attention to North America than ever before. The U.S. Men’s National Team, alongside Mexico and Canada, will headline the event as host nations, joined by global powers like Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Portugal and Spain.

Adding to this surge is the continued impact of Lionel Messi in Major League Soccer. His arrival has elevated MLS visibility, boosted attendance, and inspired youth players across the country. Messi's impact has seen Soccer overtake Baseball in 2026 as The United State's third most popular sport. Seeing one of the greatest players in history competing weekly in the U.S. has helped fuel participation and interest at the grassroots level.

Locally, that growth shows up in expanding youth clubs, increased school programs, and greater investment in soccer facilities. Communities are upgrading fields, goals, and infrastructure to meet rising demand.

As soccer continues to grow, so does the responsibility to get the fundamentals right. Properly sized goals, durable equipment, and affordable options play a critical role in providing lower entry barriers for all players to be able to participate in the sport.

At Atlantic Soccer Company, we’re proud to support clubs, schools, and facilities as the game grows across the U.S. From local fields to the world’s biggest stage, we’re here to help programs prepare for 2026 and beyond.
